Wet Nurse!

a waterside disco barbecue social with

Prins Thomas (Full Pupp, Eskimo, Norway)
My Cousin Roy (Wurst Edits)
and Justin Carter and DJ Probus (Nublu, Hello, Nurse! The Beach Party)

The Nurse is back. Last time, way back in February, the Egyptian Lover came to town for the first time, and it was like this.

This time it's wetter than a slip-n-slide, and Prins Thomas is leading the sodden festivities. The Norwegian neo-disco maestro--beyond being an oft-tapped remixer (having worked over artists ranging from Justus Kohncke to Bebel Gilberto), a prolific producer (on his own and beside his longtime partner Hans-Peter Lindstrøm), and the label boss of the fine, fine Full Pupp Records--is an absolutely outstanding DJ. Stretching way beyond the boogie and Balearic that you might expect, he throws out left-field soul, Japanese techno, and even anthemic rock and roll, raising the hands and coaxing the smiles out of everyone on the dancefloor. (Everyone, by the way, will be on the dancefloor).

My Cousin Roy, head of and producer for the young but already well-known Wurst Edits imprint, is also popping 'em off. Connecting the dots between oddball disco, punk funk, deep house, acid and techno with bits of industrial, new beat, funk and dub reggae in the mix, Roy plays music that you won't normally hear, let alone get down to.   Justin Carter and Probus, the Hello, Nurse! residents, are an unlikely match. While Probus' style of DJing is mainly centered in different variants of house and techno, Justin has the attention span of a three-year-old, leading him to switch between hip hop, disco, and techno frequently in his solo sets. Together they land somewhere in the middle, building on consistent rhythms, but still throwing in surprises that make their sets exciting and, most importantly, fun.

And aside from all that music, there's also the other important stuff--food and booze. Kelly Geary keeps the bar-b organic and tasty all day long, and the sangria stays strong and cheap at the bar. And don't forget the boats and kiddie pools. Bring your swimsuit.

Helloooooooo, Nurse!
